A little bit about me...

I have been teaching at WLE for four years now and am very excited to start my fourth year with this wonderful community. While at WLE I have begun a Games Club with the help of a wonderful parent and PAC. I hope to continue the games club with past students and the new Div. 4 students.

In the past I have taught both in other elementary schools and at a local high school (in classrooms, as a teacher librarian, and in specialty subjects like ELL and Theatre, etc.). You will soon discover I am a very arts passionate teacher and love to inspire my students to share their creativity with the world! It is my hope to integrate the arts and technology in the year ahead. I feel students learn best when they are given many mediums to explore and share their learning with. Whether it is oil pastels, clay, calligraphy, and or an ipad all are relevant learning and exploration tools that will help each student grow.

I look forward to fostering children’s creativity through inquiry learning, while encouraging them to demonstrate their depth of understanding through a variety of ways. I feel they can share their learning through a play/skit, artwork, writing, and or PowerPoint, etc. I will encourage them to present their findings from a variety of ways, as this will help them better deal with the fluidity of the changing world. To be comfortable in any format will help them better adapt to anything the future holds.

My degree concentrations were in English, Visual Art, Theatre, and Educational Psychology. However, I enjoy all areas of the intermediate curriculum, and hope that each child will enjoy learning and discovery in our class! I attended both Trinity Western and Simon Fraser Universities.

I am a mother of three children ranging from ages five to fifteen. Like most parents, I find each child has their own unique talents, learning styles, needs, and personality, which is not unlike each student in a classroom. My own children have helped me to know the importance of assessing and understanding each of my student's individual needs socially, emotionally, and intellectually. It is through careful observation and communication with students, parents, and staff that we together can create the best possible learning environment for each child!

I look forward to getting to know you and your child(ren) better!

Sincerely,

Mrs. G. Janzen :)
